Default do pipes actually get louder with time?

Hi

I have the SE performence 98B's on my bike. They only have about 400Km on them but I could swear that they are louder than when I first got them. Is that just wishful thinking on my part or can they somehow get louder?

The pipes get louder as the fiberglass insulation burns out of them...

Absolutely, If you ever pulled out the baffle you would see fiberglass insulation wrapped around the baffle, This burns off with time.

Can the baffles be removed or changed? Or, can you pull some of the insulation out to make it louder?

Somewhere around 3000 miles I took off like a bat out of hell up to about 80 and thought I'd lost a muffler. They definitely got louder than they were when I installed them.

Just get out and ride the damned thing and it will take care of itself in short order. Every pipe I've had has gutted itself within 700-1000 miles. For a touring bike, that should take you one good week at most.

This should be obvious, but once the packing is gone, it is done "getting louder".
