do pipes actually get louder with time?

RE: do pipes actually get louder with time?
I put about 800 miles on the stock pipes, they started sounding about what I wanted to.
At that point the goodies I had ordered whwn I bought the bike had arrived.
Dropped it off at the dealer while I went back home to have the stuff installed.
Now have about 700 miles on the Screaming Eagles, they are now starting to sound nice and throaty.
Ran through a tunnel down in Seattle, couldn't believe it was my bike making that sound!
Two of my big requirements for the noise is that I can still hear the radio and the wife will not be pizzed!!

My opinion is wind noise is more hazardous to the ears than the pipes. If I have my illegal **** pot helmet on, I wear ear plugs. With my DOT half helmet with ear flaps, the wind noise is muffled enough that it doesn't bother me. My Samson slip ons aren't that loud but loud enough that the varmits can hear me comin.
