Default Gel Pack vs. New Seat

I am looking to have the seat on my flhtc modified to add gel packs? My question is:
Is the gel pack worth the $ or is the new seat a better option. Any info would help?
Thanks in advance

Gel-packs are not worth the money. I had them added to my seat even though people told me they are overpriced and don't do much. Now that I have them I agree...they are overpriced and the don't do anything on long rides.

Default Gel Pad

I've got a gel pad that sits on the seat that I use on long trips, and had a Heritage that I had a gel pad installed in the seat. It didn't seem to make too much difference.

I just sent my seat to "Mean City Cycles" for a re-make, and I'm hoping that with this seat modification I won't need the gel pad. You could send me an e-mail in about a month and I'll let you know how the seat mod came out.

Just for info- their web site is:

I sent my seat to Kno Place Upholstery in South Dakota where they took both driver and passenger apart. put in gel pad, memory foam and smoothing foam on my stock 2007 Ultra seat... Cost me about $250.00 total.... I would do it again in a heartbeat.... Seat is firm but soft,,, just like a good woman.... Can ride for hours,,,, Check out their website.. KnoPlace Upholstery...

I had something called "column buckling gel" used in my seat. They also used a few layers of memory foam. My seat is much better. I don't know if it could be even better, but I'm satisfied with what I have. Check this site out:

I personally have a Mustang seat with no gel pad and its really comfortable. Some of my buddies use a airhawk seat pad that they swear by for long rides

ive had good luck with the airhawk on long rides but...... it gets wet in rain. so went to work on the straps put small screws through them into bottom of seat so putting it back on dont have to remove seat, much better now.

I had gel installed in my Harley reach seat for Heritage Softail. Made seat miserable. Very hot in summer and more uncomfortable than before.

I did not have memory foam installed over it. Quality memory foam of high density could make a difference but you wouldn't really need gel pad if you use memory foam of high quality like Mean City Cycles uses.

My professionally installed gel pad did not make much difference at all. Definitely would not recommend based on my experience. Sold it and the stock seat for $50 and was glad to get rid of it.
