Talking Clean jugs!!!!

I know this has probably been beaten to death, but I was not there to see or hear about the end result. I have an 04 EGC and the fins are beginning to look shabby and I would like to get them clean/shiney again. Who has used what and with what results? Thanks.

I've used Armour all. Wash the bike, let it air dry. Spray on the armour all and let it start to dry. Wipe up the little puddles and you're good for three or four washes.

Red face

My 2005 CVO Electraglide had a silver motor and after a couple of years the fins looked really beat up even though the bike was always cleaned up and dried.

I tried all kinda things to bring the cut edges of the fins back, but nothing really worked. I finally tried something that worked great and on a silver motor it's an easy fix to get the cut edges of your fins back to original or at least pretty close.

Buy some scotchpads...I used the red ones and very carefully rub them on the cut edges of the fins. The pads will cut just enough of the metal to bring them back to life. It's pretty painstaking cause if you accidentally rub off the cut eged, it'll take off metal where you didn't intend.

I used gloves too, cause the pads are rough and will eventually cut your fingers up a bit...

There's varying pads depending on the color and cutting power, but this worked really well. A black motor you'd have to be really careful not to rub onto the black finish.

I got the pads at walmart..

If you're talking about just cleaning up stains and things and you're fins are fine, then this may not be the answer for you. Also, with my new flhx after I wash it, I put a little wd-40 on a rag and carefully rub just the cut edges of the fins...this has kept down the discoloration and deoxidation I get from living close to the ocean...

hope it helps...

Simple Green or a good all wheel cleaner like McGuires Hot Wheels.

I appreciate the replys. I believe that I missed the point in the beginning to say that I was meaning the fin edges and not the flat black of the engine itself. Thanks all the same.

The fin edges are what I was talking about. Seriously..try the scotch pads...you'll be very satisfied with the results...

You didn't miss your point, I did. For the edges I use a 600 grit sanding pad with mild soap and water. It keeps a nice flat edge and is just coarse enough to clean but not smooth the edge. Don't use a typical back and forth motion. Go in one direction only.
