Default Dyno right after 103 build?

My dealer who will be doing my 103 build (basic-SE 103 jugs, flat top cast SE pistons, stock heads, SE 255 cams) said its ok to dyno right after the build. I thought a mild break in period would be required? I have pipes, Hi flow and PC III already. 2008 Road King FLHR
Opinions appreciated.

If it was up to me, I would wait until you break in the piston rings. Unless you have a dyno tuner who is that good he knows how to break in an eingin on the dyno. I know of very few of those type of people. Best answer to you question is ask the dyno tuner yourself and see what is response is. If he tells you he is just going to do a pull and that is how he is going to break it in, I would then wait.

Lots of builders do it this way, it was done on my Springer and so far so good. Tighten the bolts, pour the oil and gas in, warm it up, and let'er rip.

My indy did a pre dyno only up 5000 rpm's after first 100 miles just to see where we stand on hp and tq, and to get a base line. After I get 1000 miles on her he will give another dyno. That should yeld the final numbers. Only 350 more miles to go. Now, if it will just stop raining.

Would strongly recommend letting the rings seat properly. Pushing them too hard too early is asking for problems down the road. You might want to try one of the PC maps for a few hundred miles and then have it tuned.

Do whatever the person doing the work wants to do. You want them to stand behind the work, not have an "out", saying later "you didn't do what I told you to do".

This is the method i have used on all my new motorcycles, and haven´t had any problems. Not saying this is the only way to go, but the seating of the pistonrings is a critical thing for a troublefree engine later on.

New rings nowadays seat pretty quick. A good dyno operater can tell when it's sealed up and ready to go. Mine is headed for dyno breakin an tune next weekend. Mike

You trusted him to do your rebuild - so you should trust him to finish the job! If he reckons on doing a dyno run, doesn't mean he is going to try to bust it, just set it up for you. He will probably suggest you take it back after a certain mileage, when he will check it all over.

That is what my S&S 107 fitter did for me when I had it fitted. I'll get it checked over for the start of the new season, when it comes. Snowing at the moment....
