Does anyone use S&S any more? It was the norm back in the day and worked quite well.

I had one my 92' FXDC and once dialed in to match the pipes worked great.

You still need a remap via a tuner when going to a stage 1.The additional power is generated by an additional air/fuel mix.By just adding air youve basicaly just shortened the fuse on a stick of dynomite.Still the same stick of dynomite.

Check out the air filter made by GEROLAMY, this concept is unique. Not only does it draw air in from the sides, but also from the front of the filter to. I believe the site is gerolamy.com or google it. Worth a LOOK !!!!!!!! PICKED UP 3HP AND 6TQ With just this filter alone.

Stock bikes run lean as it is. If you change the filter to a high flow filter with out changing the map your going to make it run even leaner. More air, same amount of fuel. Yes it will work, but for it to be right, you should at least get the dealer to do a stage 1 download. That will still be lean but back to original specs. An additional tuning device of your choice would be even better.

I did check with the dealer about doing only the intake without remapping. They told it would be fine as-is until I get some pipes in a couple of months, then I need to remap. They said the OEM tuner will compensate for any additional air available at the intake, since without more open exhaust, there won't be much change in the flow through the entire system.
They did tell me if you are deciding which to do first (pipes or intake) if not together, it is better to do the intake first. It has something to do with the way the sensors handle the changing air/fuel mix vs compensating for improved exhaust flow. Keep in mind this is all for an 09 FI system.
