how can I get a little more sound and power
I'm sure this question has been asked a 1000 times before, and from what I have read there seems to be a 1000 opinions and/or answers out there. That being said, could someone tell me, in a non technical way, how I can get a little more power and sound out of my 2005 RK Custom without spending my kids college fund.
I was planning on just getting a Stage I kit and some slip-ons. Is this all I need to do? What issues should I be aware of?
Any suggestions on slips, remember I only want a little more sound.
Do I need to get a power commander or SERT too? What about Dyno testing does that need to be done.
Any advice will be appreciate.

RE: how can I get a little more sound and power
I know a lot of the guys here are going with the SERT or PC. I went with an Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner and the Harley touring mufflers and the basic Stage one download and couldn't be happier. Bike starts great runs great with no problems so far. If I ever decide to have the 95 kit done then I will go with the SERT download.

OK, this is really bad, but could someone please tell this newbie what is a "SERT" and a "PC III USB"?

PCIII= Power Commander
They both reprogram your ECM but in different ways. WHich is better?? Depends on alot of things...LOL
Ok for cheap money:
V&H Slipons
K&N Intake
V&H FuelPack-Self Adjustable
Best Performance:
2-into 1
SERT or PCIIII
K&N Intake
Dyno Tuned
Middle of the road choice:
Exhaust of choice wether Slipons or True Dual w/mufflers
SERT or PCIII
K&N Intake
Dyno Tuned

RE: how can I get a little more sound and power
A stage 1 download, air breather and mufflers would do you just fine if you were looking for just a little bit more power with a minimal amount of money spent. But I would go ahead and spend the extra $260 for PCIII or $350 for SERT to maximize your potential.
For KWgrimes,
PCIII-aftermarket product bolt on electronic module that connects inline with your stock ECM to give you correct air/fuel once you change out your air breather and to give you max performance. Will work after installation and can be tweeked with laptop or completely fine tuned with a dyno tune.
SERT-HD product that reprograms ECM to manage air/fuel ratio after breather change-no extra bolt on product. Also, SERT is capable of more precision tuning than the PCIII.
That is it in a nutshell and in laymans terms. Terry1955 had a really good, technical post about the two, but I could not find it. Someone else more knowledgable than myself can elaborate better.
