Default Just about blew myself up today!!!!!!!!!!

Today I decided to hook up the wire loom for my new fairing I got a couple of weeks ago, well I'm reading the instructions and they say to run the wire loom alone with the factory wire loom, so I'm looking up under the gas tank and can't see a thing, so I took the rear bolt out of the gas tank and lifted it up just far enough (1 1/4" at the most) that I could stick a little block of wood under it, so I'm working alone and about 15-20 minutes later I'm saying to myself man it's getting kinda gassy smelling in here so I walk around the bike and Holy **** there is at least a gallon of gas on the floor.
The stupid cheap *** plastic gas ling fitting that's on the back of the fuel injector rail had broken off and fuel was running all over every where.
Here's the kicker I had just shut down the propane heater before I started on this project and guess where the gas had run to, if I hadn't shut it down before starting I would have blown me the bike and the garage up.
On the upside at least I know how to get the gas tank off when I upgrade the top end on my engine some day and I replaced that cheap short *** fuel line with one that is longer and I got to route the fairing wire loom in the plastic tunnel with all the rest of the factory looms.
Been a mechanic for 30 years and that was the closest I've ever come to blowing myself up!!!

Wow! You are lucky! That is what I call a "lesson learned" moment. Nobody was hurt, nothing was damaged (except maybe your ego) and you lived to share this little safety tip with others.

Next time work the quick-connect fitting exiting the tank and make sure there's no undue tension on the fuel supply line.

You better go buy a lottery ticket. I knew a few people that were badly burned from the same situation.
