All the Ultra factory XM antennas are mounted inside the fairing as well as the GPS antenna. Both my XM and GPS work just fine inside the fairing.

Tucked my antenna on top of dash on my RG down along the painted strip on lower edge of windshield. Out of sight and the reception is great.

Boy, I didn't realize that Garmin antenna was such a big, ugly hockey puck.

My 07 I had the dealer install the XM and they installed the antenna on top of the radio. The reception was marginal at best. I just finished installing the factiory XM myself on my new 09 Ultra and located the antenna on the bracket at the top of the fairing inside and I have max reception, 3 bars. I guess if you want it done right due it yourself! I also installed 2 new front speakers, the latest J&M's. I have the back 2 on order. The system sounds great.

I put mine on top of my radio, it's magnetic like the rest. Absolutely no reception problems at all - ever. I don't like seeing wires either.

I don't know whereabouts in Pittsburgh you are, but I live near the airport and have XM on an 09 SG. The antenna is under the fairing (I just saw it when installing an ARC mini last week) on a small bracket not far from the bottom of the windshield to the right if you are looking at the front of the bike. As another post above said, it looks as if the bracket was made to mount the antenna. The XM goes out in several places, but only momentarily. Really not a problem.
