Default Andrews 26 cams: what kind of power gains can I expect?

I've got a bone stock '09 FLHR and am planning on adding SE air cleaner and doing a SERT tune. Probably keeping the stock cans for now.

I'm wondering whether adding Andrews 26 cams would boost the torque and horsepower with the above mods enough to warrant the cost. Any ideas?

I've been kicking the idea around too. There is a bit of difference between the chain driven the gear driven cam. Of course the gear driven is a few more bucks and requires more than just bolt in.

You might go to the Andrews Cam web site and read more about them there.

Thanks, I've done that. Was just hoping I could get some dyno data.

Did you do the mods all at once, or the cams separately? Be nice to know what impact the cams themselves will make.

RKR forum has a section of nothing but Andrews 26 dyno charts of various engine combinations.

I had an Andrews 26G on my '01 carbed FLHTC w/95 kit. Bike definitely ran good, just noticed that the power seemed to fade after 3500 rpm. If doing it again I would have went with Headquarters cams.

Consider the Head-Quarters HQ550/HGQ-0034 (depending on your bike's year).

Peak numbers on a bolt-in cam swap are misleading since the aggregate power increase is throughout the rpm operating range--so although the peak number change may not seem great, the cumulative effect is very significant.

My stock 88" bike dynoed at 74 hp and 78 tq with Rinehart TD's and SE a/c. The HQ 0034 cams moved the numbers to 78-80 hp and 88-90 tq depending on the dyno. But the difference in the bike's power was greater with the latter change than the former.

Just be sure to get at least a decent tune.

Did you do gear drive or chain drive?
