I dont think just using caution would prevent you from taking a crossing gate to the face. You must first master reading, and common sense. That should be done long before you ever throw your leg over a bike.

Fact is having a few active brain cells is not a prerequisite for buying a motorcycle.....this guy was a prime example.

When I'm riding I don't take chances trying to rush through in front of someone. Like you said you have to be careful out there.

Where I live it will cost you at least $500 if you get caught crossing a railroad track after the warning device activates. I guess that would be pretty cheap compared to a crossing arm to the face.....................

What does wearing a helmet or not have to do with this dumass running into the crossing arm, does a helmet make you smarter?

And, unless he had on a full face helmet it might not have made a differece anyway since it was his face that hit the crossing bar. Perhaps he should have ducked?

Motorcyclist trying to beat train hit crossing arm
TAMPA -- A 36-year-old Tampa man is in critical condition after deputies say he rode his motorcycle into a descending railroad crossing arm.

Anthony J. Lonero was not wearing a helmet when he rode across the tracks at Waters Avenue and Woodland Corporate Boulevard just before 9 a.m. today, trying to beat an oncoming train.

Hillsborough Sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said Lonero avoided the train. But his face hit the crossing arm, throwing him from the 2008 Ducati and sending his motorcycle skidding across the pavement.

After the accident, the train passed on through, Callaway said.

Lonero, of 406 S. Melville Avenue, Apt. 4, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. CSX officials replaced the broken crossing arm.
