Default Time to Change Tires?

Bike is going in for some tranny work and cam change. It has about 11,000 miles on it and the rubber seems pretty good. How many miles is average on tires? I don't spin them hard and I don't stop hard unless there is a deer in front of me. I've heard anywhere from 8-15... I wonder if I should bite the bullet and change them out now and not worry about it in the middle of the riding season. If I do change I'll keep the wide white wall, so that probably limits my options. Any help or thoughts are appreciated.

I personally would wait until they need to be changed, unless the work your having done requires the wheels be to be removed...which it doesn't sound like it does.

On average a rear tire would go about 12500 miles or better and a front 22500 or better. Check your wear bars on the tires.

I say change the tires when you see the air.

Tread depth and tire age is what matters. Buy a tread depth gauge. About $3 at the local auto parts store or $29.95 at HD dealership. Change at 2/32. You need that much tread to clear water and prevent hydroplaning.

That says it all right there as well as the other point if were removing the wheels then might consider it a little early ...

I was able to get 15700 out of the stock rear. When replaced the depth was almost at the min.
I still have the stock front with 33000 mi.

Should you change them?Depends on the tread depth, age, signs of cracking.

Thanks that helps a lot. I'll wait. I do have a tread depth.... duh, imagine thinking of using it.

15700 on one tire? Wow, that's great! I had to change my rear with about 8500 on her. It now has a little over 16000 and it will be due by riding season. Front tire is still like new. But I don't ride hard. Just a lot of 2-up riding.

Ride safe and keep the rubber side down
