HD Trade in Deal.....Anyone Thinking About It

my buddy just traded in his 09 Sporty with 650 miles on it for a Heritage Classic Softail. He had to pay full MSRP on the new bike, but they threw in $500 worth of gear for him (new helmet, jacket, gloves and some other stuff). You would be better served if you had the bike for a couple of years as he has now paid T&L two times in the last 4 months so that adds a few grand to the price of the new bike. Not a bad promo though if you have had your bike a year or more and can at least depreciate the taxes....

I went out to get numbers on Street Bobs today at the Oklahoma City Harley dealers….. Harley Davidson World shot me $350 over MSRP, freight, security, color, etc - $14,369 on a flat black Street Bob. They had a sticker on a gloss black for well over $15,000 LOL – somebody was really going to get screwed if they didn’t know any better. When I asked wtf with the nearly $2,000 over suggested retail he came back with a $14,024 price on the vivid black.
I ran down to Fort Thunder Harley Davidson to see what they might do to compete and instead of making a competitive quote – they shot me prices of $425 over MSRP, security, freight, color, etc…. and they won’t even have any more Street Bobs until mid-January. They didn’t know if those would have security either.
I called Edmond Harley Davidson where I bought my Nightster. They had the best deal of the three on it, but that was still a few hundred over MSRP. They’re the same dealer as HD World and he said he wouldn’t undercut them. LOL
So, I called up Forman HD in Stillwater, OK – about 85 miles north. They’ve got the bikes and their charge is only $125 over MSRP, etc…. beyond that they are giving $1,000 in accessories with a Big Twin purchase! That takes some of the sting out of the over $2,000 I spent on accessories for the Nightster this year. With what I recoup from Ebay I should be almost even on that.
I think I’m committed to making the deal. I’ll have to take the bike up there for them to confirm it as in good enough condition for the trade-in. That’s slightly inconvenient. I’ll likely have to wait until that is confirmed before I can put the loan through and then pick up the new bike the following weekend.
