Unhappy Sad Times for The Harleys Dealers and their Employees

Was at my local New Jersey Harley dealer this weekend and they still had a lot of the 09's they got in late summer in fact they have an 09 Screming Eagle Road Glide in yellow that is soooo sweet they had that since the release of the new bikes as well as about 4 leftover 08 Ultras they cant seem to get rid of. Looks like everyone isnt pulling the trigger myself included Ill keep my 08 till the economy changes or I get richer LOL!! I wish. This dealer also had their Customers Sat Xmas Party and after they closed had a meeting with their staff they layed off One Salesman, one Service Writer, and cut everyones hours. All the staff now have three days off a week instead of two so that it wasnt necessery to lay off others Ouch!!! This is a sign of the times and they arent getting any better, So after the party Scrooge showed Ho Ho Ho!!!Merry Effin Xmas!!Sad times for all Ride Safe, Bill.

When I was at the dealer last week making the deal on my new Dyna the first thing that struck me was the number of bikes on the floor. You almost couldn't walk around. There was easily three times as many bikes on the floor as there was two years ago when I bought my Sportster.

They've actually had steady sales at my local dealer. I've seen some models on the showroom for 4-5 months, but most of them seem to be rotating out on a regular basis.

Local dealer here has bikes on the floor that have been there forever, and yet they don't want to deal on them. Maybe they know something i don't.

Gotta say, from my retail business experience, Harley is in deep dodo. If you can, wait until the new year when every dealer will be dealing because they can't afford the carrying costs of unsold inventory. Also, Harley stock is in the toilet and even with their planned production cutbacks, they need to keep their dealers in business, so they will be offering special incentives to move bikes. The economy really is going to get worst before it gets better and Harley is in the same sorry shape as the auto industry. No one, and I mean NO ONE should be paying MSRP for a Harley in today's economic environment!

There are new bikes on my Dealers showroom everytime I go there, which is about once every two or three weeks. There are five Ultra's there now and many other models on the floor. I would guess about 50 new and 25 used. They do get rotated out too, because I asked about a Black ice Ultra I saw there 2 times ago, and last week it was gone. They said it sold during their X-mas party.

That's how the dealers around here are. They both have so many bikes that you can't hardly walk around the showroom...but no deals...yet.

I don't know exactly how fast or slow bikes are moving here, but there are PLENTY of new bikes to take your PICK from. I guess it's the most that I have EVER seen!
