Default When do you fill your tank

When traveling long distances, when do you stop for gas. I'm so afraid of being stranded that I stop and gas up at half-a-tank.

Half tank seems too early for me but everyone is different. If your butt can go longer, why not? Also depends what part of the country and what area you're traveling in as to how many stations are around. Get to know your bike and its gas gauge as all are different. Some new bikes have a trip meter that will show approximately how many miles you have left in your tank. I've never run out but I have put 5 gallons of gas in a 5 gallon tank before! Pretty close I'd say.

It all depends on were I am. Out in the boonies and don't know were the next station is I will do the 1/2 tank fill up also. On the other hand I will wait for the light t come on if I know I am with range of a fule stop.

I usually get 160-170 off of four gallons, or until the low fuel light comes on. So roughly 40 miles remain at that point(07 FLHT with 5 gallon tank). I set the B tripmeter each time I fuel up to Zero so I am on top of how far I have traveld and estimate how far I can still go.

LMAO. Hope that makes sense.

I wanted to answer.... I fill my gas tank when it needs more gas added to it.

...ok..with my 2005 E-Glide, as everyone knows, the "gas guage" is useless as is, once you figure it out though, you realize that when the needle shows "half-tank", it really is a 1/4 tank,...so to answer the question, I fill up at a quarter tank, but the bike says half..

Yep, my 06 Ultra is the same way 1/2 is really 1/4. When the gauge gets to 1/4 its about 5 miles from the fuel light coming on. Which puts me at about 135/140 miles, 5 gallon tank. I always travel with a small bottle of fuel just in case. But to answer your question I fill at 1/4 on the gauge.

most of the time gas is fairly plentiful.when not I look at road maps towns and how far I have to travel between them.usually a pee break is in order that forces me to stop.

I usually watch the odometer and get gas at 200 or beter, depends on where I'm headding. If it's unknown, I'll ask at my last stop about gas.
