the Heritage bars are a popular choice. I am having them put on my '09 RKC before leaving the dealership, for the very reason you mentioned. No cable changes, or anything, as far as I know.

regards,
Drew

Never liked the stock handlebars on the RKC myself and had my dealer install HD Beachbars. Loved every minute of it.

I put Heritage bars on a friends RK and he loves his riding position.

I had the Wild 1 Road King pull backs put on. A big difference and they're fatter too. A good option if you're looking for fatter bars too.

Default handle bars

Wifes RKC has beach bars on it & we both find them comfortable. Not sure of the brand as they were on the bike when we got it..

Sorry, I have the same year and bike and I could'nt find a Harley bar I liked. I went with the Wild 1 Chubbie 518s, love them. I have a bad shoulder and could only ride a few hours with the stock bars. Now I can, and do ride all day with no pain. 6'1" 215 lbs. They are a little pricey but worth it, and very good quality.

Default Wild 1 518s

I have an 05 Road King Classic. I had a lot of neck and back pain on long rides. I swapped to the Wild 1 518 bars and changed to a mustang dual touring seat with backrest. Its like riding a different bike. Huge improvement!

Default Handle Bars

I have the Harley Reduced Reach Bars. Very comfortable and not very expensive though I like the looks of the Chubby's. With the reduced reach bar I only had to put in a different wire extension kit. I'm 5'8 and with the Mustang seat I have no riding pain in shoulders or back.
