I posted this in the Softail forum but I'd like to get opinions from bagger riders as well. Before I do my winter mods which include detachable backrest, bags, and new bars, I'm seriousely considering just selling it and getting a Streetglide. I'd love to get my hands on a SG and start building my vision of it. 103", 21/18 contrast cut wheels, blacked out everything, stretched bags, smooth rear fender, killer stereo, etc.... My dilemma is that I have alot of $$ invested in my Fatboy. Much more than the pics would lead you to believe, and even more time. At one time or another, I've had every part off the bike except the engine and trans and no one has ever turned a wrench on it except me so I'm a little sentimental about it. I'd like to keep both but I can't at this time. HELP!
My take on the differences. While the Fat Boy is great on the road with the windshield and 6-speed, and carries enough stuff with bags and T-bag on the sissy bar, the Street Glide travels better. The S.G. is rock steady and with an 8' windshield and the fairing you don't get fatigued, and nothing beats lockable hard bags. The stereo is really cool. Around town the Fat Boy is better. It doesn't shake at stoplights, and it backs into parking spots a lot easier. I ride the hell out of both bikes. If I had to choose just one it would be the Streetglide, but It would be a close decision.

Answering this depends on several factors. Such as how old are you and how long do you ride at a time. I recently traded my beloved Fatboy that I thought I would keep until I died. But after doing 1500 miles on it in 4 days (at age 56), and hurting for the next three days I opted for a new geezer glide. While I'll always have a spot in my heart for the Fatboy, my *** & back are enjoying the Ultra very much!
