yep...all the six speeds whine in fifth. Although my 09 SG does not whine as bad as my 08 fat bob. I believe they make something called IDS that will help with most of the noise. I just try to avoid riding in fifth. Call your parts guy and ask him what it is they make to help with that noise. It does suck!!!

Switching to a dedicated transmission oil like the Spectro made for 6 speed trannys will be a big help.

Whining is good...It's when it stops whining that you'll need to worry !!

Youre right Trock the 08S's have IDS...sorry. About the only thing you can do is put some Spectro tranny fluid in there. It did help mine considerably. Hey Trock...where did you get the tank badge? I like it. Can you post a closer pic of it or send it to my private message board. Thanks

Louder pipes. That will help cover up the whine noise.

How smart are we?...lol

The 5th gear/gearing has straight cut teeth as apposed to all the other gears that have a bevel at the end of each tooth that allows a smoother mesh to the adjoining gears...now if you can tell me why R & D did this at HD I would be much appreciative. However, no worries about the wine we all have it on factory 07's and newer...and I have no problem with it and I like it.

please forgive me if you feel you got this info in error.
