Default Want to thank everyone first off. A lot of good info on here.

Impressive Donnylee. I agree a 100% about your mechanic and their ability or lack of to tune a bike.. You also have to take a look at what, where and when you tune your bike. So not being rude I have to beg to differ with the 103 upgrade not being all that. Of course to each their own. Mine was tuned in 98 degree weather not 20 miles from the beach with really high humidity. My mechanic and tuner holds many Salt Flat land speed records. So this dyno is very stingy with it's numbers. That being said I have to look at where my Tq starts pulling and around 2200rmp to yours and say their is a pretty fair difference between the two. Just thought I would throw in my Dyno Chart for comparison. Four hours of tuning and we kept around 10-12 hp out of the equation to keep from running a hotter fuel. Kudos on your 96 though. That was my first option until I figured out what we could pull out of the 103 Stage II kit.

I did 103 with Andrews 54h cams and and no head work. It isn't fast but I just rented a stock 103 and my bike blows the stocker away!

The cams with a suitable tune make more difference than the big bore kit without cams.

See mods below. Fantastic power, it's a real blast to ride. But MPG from 28 - 32 are a real downer. I'm not a happy camper when I'm paying for the gas and then all smiles until I have to stop for gas again.

That sounds like a right wrist problem.

Have to agree the stock 103's aren't all that. It's amazing what the right set up will do though. I have to say when the rebuild was done on motor with the 96" to 103" Stage II racing kit, exhaust, ect. I gained some serious mid-range torque. Or to be more exact---How often do you run your bike up to 5400 rpm's let alone the 6400 redline???? She pulls hard from 2000-4500 and still climbs right up through 5500. Just not as quick between 4500-5500.

Anyone doing the 103 and 255 cam should also do compression releases. I couldn't take all the starting problems anymore. So I just replaced my 09 RKC heads with some 2012 take-offs I bought that have ACR's. Took me about 18 hours to do. Five of those hours just to install the wiring harness. But it's all done now. Big difference! No more kick backs. Starts real easy. It'll save me from a lot of problem in the future.

I have a 103".
IS the stage 2 just cams?
I was planning on doing new exhaust, new air, tensioners and cams and then a tune.
Is that considered a stage 2?

No a stage II 103 kit for a 103 has high compression pistons 10-5:1,se-259e cams, perfect fit push rods, high compression clutch diaphram clutch spring, high lift valve springs. You will also need a SERT,high flow air cleaner and free flowing exhaust.......OR at least that's the HD set up for a Stage II for a stock 103.

I had the same problem when I first did the build. I have since put a SE compensator and after that it cranks just fine. I have however thought about putting a high torque starter on it just for good measure.
