I have hundreds of MP3's recorded on several CD's and in two years and 23k miles of playing the unit nearly every time I'm on the bike I've never had even one burp from it. I don't think the bit rate or sampling rate would be a factor, as I have MP3's recorded anywhere from 96-256kbs, mostly 128kbs, and all play fine.
All my MP3's are unencrypted, so maybe there is a limitation there. Also, I believe I read somewhere that iTunes files can be a problem. Do this: Play the problem CD on another HK head unit. If it fails it is likely a problem with the music file or the CD itself, but if not you may have a problem with the CD unit.
Also, you don't mention the model-year of your bike, but it might help to upgrade the firmware of the unit to the most-recent v8.19, if you don't already have it. I recall that older FW versions had issues with MP3 playing. You can get it here. That link also tells you how to check your present firmware version and how to do the upgrade.
