Dealer Invoice 2009 RK
I thought I'd just take one for the team here and buy the invoice.
Dealer Invoice Report
2009 FLHR Road King
List Price: $16999 BLACK
List Price: $17374 COLOR
List Price: $17729 2-TONE
Dealer Invoice: $13599 BLACK
Dealer Invoice: $13899 COLOR
Dealer Invoice: $14183 2-TONE
These are the base dealer costs before actual freight and assembly costs.
Freight Cost: $375 (48 states and Alaska only)
Estimated Assembly Cost: $125-$140
Each dealership has its own method of figuring their actual cost of assembly and preparation for sale.
There is no reimbursement by the factory for this cost to the dealer.
Ready to sell cost: $14099BLACK
Ready to sell cost: $14399COLOR
Ready to sell cost: $146832-TONE
California Emission Charge - Invoice / List Price - $160 / $200
Wholesale Incentives: no dealer holdback or sales incentives for this model.
Factory Options: cost / retail
H-D Factory Security System - $276 / $345
Wheel Option - $360 / $450
ABS - $636 / $795
Cruise - $216 / $270
The "Ready to sell cost" is the cost of the machine sitting on the showroom floor with NO PROFIT to a dealer. Dealers do not stay in business very long by selling machines for no profit.
Many dealers charge additional fees for "Freight and Setup" over and above the selling price of the machine. Add the "Selling Price" to the "Freight and Setup" charges and subtract the "Ready to sell cost" to determine the PROFIT a dealer is asking to make. Dealers in most states are required to collect sales tax and title fees for the state. These fees are not profit to a dealer.

Thanks for taking the plunge. Always wanted to know but couldn't get myself to spend the money. Not really a lot of money but I guess it is principle. I suppose now we are left to wonder where they get their information and if it is factual. Sounds about right to me. BTW, I bought an 09 Electra a few months ago and got a little better than 2K off.

Hey thanks for dropping a 20 for us.
I was curious, but I too wouldn't do it for principle sake.
....which is funny because some people say, I don't have too many principles. LOL
One point I have is the dealer add on crap: Mainly the set up fees.
Most dealers have this listed between $500 and $1,000. Whatever they think they can get away with. So it's more pure profit over the "Estimated Assembly Cost: $125-$140".
That's basically all I could have them lower when I bought mine. The rest was their MSRP bullcrap. That and how much discount I could receive for the add on after parts.
editor's note:
I was feeling guilty that you spent $20 to give us this info and was looking up your address so I could send you a dollar (as my part). But then I saw you live in Hawaii so I don't feel so sorry for you now. LOL

Everyone says this...but what you guys don't understand is that theres 20 miles of highway and one road that goes around the island. Both are packed with traffic 8 days a week.
