I realized after taking the course that I had alot to learn. I'm now more wary of oncoming cars (dreaded left turn a-holes and the ones who pull out in front of you). I now look to see if their wheels are still moving and if the driver appears to see me.

 

Took the STAR course in Idaho last year. It was tough, but outstanding. I was shocked when they failed two people in the class. Really shocked. Nice thing was I didn't have to take anything at the DOT. Just handed them the card and got my certification.

As for the course itself, the thing I took from it was turning technique. I had a hell of a time believing that when you turn you actually PRESS the bar on the side you are turning. It seemed to be the total opposite of simple physics. I had been turning incorrectly for quite some time. It took me some time to unlearn my bad habit, but there is no question that this PRESS technique made me a better bike rider.

the best course i took was the ride like a pro west coast training the dvd was great

but the hands on course was better-ride safe

 

As a MSF Instructor now Rider Coach since 1979 (yes 79) it's great to see every post so far being positive, for the money and time you just can't beat the training. We all continue to learn and when we get to a point that we think we got it all is when we get in trouble, I still get better and learn with every class. THE MORE YOU KNOW THE BETTER IT GETS!!!!!

 

I havent been on a bike for years and my last one was about 300 lbs less then my new baby.
Ive looked into the course and im sure ill be signing up as soon as they allow,Plus i have a lot more buttons and things on the ultra glide then i did on my old 750k(even tho i dressed it up)
After talking with a few people i understand slow speeds is when ya want to be careful,even tho the bike is balanced,guess front brakes at slow speeds is tricky also
Quick ?.Anyone had any experience having to get on the binders with the new ABS brakes?Dealer said they r something special.

I took the class this spring. I had very little riding experience. I found it very informative and feel that I'm a better rider because of it. If you take it through Harley Davidson. Yah it's $250 but they furnish the bike, you get a discount on your insurance and it was a breeze here in Kansas to get a license. I didn't have to do anything but go in with my completed course paperwork and pay the add on.

 

I have taken the experienced course. I need to take again for a refresher and see what bad habits I have picked up.

 

Took the Experienced Rider Course and it was fantastic! It doesn't matter how long you have ridden... you will learn some great things... my goal is to take it every year... maybe every other will work.

 

I took the course through ABATE before I slung my leg over the Road King....it has been the best money I've ever spent. Now, I wouldn't let anyone in my family even consider buying a bike until they've taken it.
