I use a medium weight neck tube for long trips or on colder days. It's kept my neck warm even in the low 20s at 70MPH. I wear a 3/4 helmet even in winter. It seems to keep the wind from entering my helmet too much and making my eyes water. On warmer days I will use a lightweight balaclava.
I use a Schampa balaclava that has a fleece neck on it and works great with my 1/2 helmet and a snap on flip up face sheild. I have frequently riden well down into the 20's. Any cooler than that & I break out My Fulmer AFM modular full face helmet.
Just remember to take them off before visiting the bank. This is especially true if you happen to be wearing your wife...you might have to switch banks after that!
Without reading 3 pages to see if someone already mentioned it: Target has what I call Turtlenecks (those neck things) made of fleece that are made to pull up over your face (and long enough to stay on your neck too. $4 or $5. They've worked great in 20 degree temps with rain and snow (before windchill factor). They're better than neoprene 'cause neoprene tends to catch the moisture of your breath. And you can just pull the fleece down when you make a pit stop at a store and not look like you're gonna rob the place.
I wear the Harley balaclava. Works great keeping the face warm
Exactly right! + Full Face Helmet, and Turtle neck warmer. You'll think you died and when straight the Harley ridin' heaven....Gotta love those electrics!
