I use the classic round cover on my '09 RG for the same reason noted. The original takes up too much room for my build.

 

Now, is that with a K&N (stage 1 a/c)

 

What is it that people dislike so much about the football?

 

I purchased the arlen ness big air sucker 2 which the football cover is too small for the high air filter. I purchased the 8 in round cover and placed a skull insert. You can't go wrong with skulls. Kick the old football away.

 

personally this is how i feel about the football...

- it doesnt look bad, but doesnt fit my vision of my bike
- it is huge and really sticks out and where it hits me on the leg it bugs the heck outa me

I do not lose sleep rolling and tossing and thinking of the football air cleaner cover at night.....but still, there is no love lost between this erstwhile air cleaner and myself. it is ergonomically challenged and it must go..perhaps i will give it a one way ticket to nebraska..but before then i will of course need to adopt a replacement AC cover.

 

If you go with a round cover you need to go to an HD dealer and buy the $5.00 rubber adaptor ring that goes on the air filter. It supports the cover on the outside. Otherwise, you may end up breaking the center out of the air filter and see your cover go rolling down the highway. FWIW

 

can you run a k&n high flow filter with that cover

 

That one looks good, even for an old Foot ball cover. LOL
