Default Clutch - clicking when engaging?

Sometimes, not all the time, on my '08 Ultra, I will let out on the clutch and get a "clicking" type noise? Only at starting speeds in 1st gear. Hard to explain, but maybe some of you guys have experienced this.

I can pull back in on the clutch and re-engage and it usually quits. Also always quits when she gets rolling.

Thanks for any pointers.

My 09 makes a similar noise. I noticed it in neutral. When I pull in the clutch, the noise quits. Let out the clutch (in neutral) and a slight knocking noise appears. Mine sounds like it is coming from the right side right under the clutch inspection cover.

Hi Gary,

I think it's a Harley thing. My sound appears when I let off the clutch too slow (I think). Sort of like it's engaging, but clicks as it's engaging. Not sure if I'm making sense. I don't hear it in neutral.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving !

Sounds like compensator clatter to me. Mine does it as well. Only when I ease off the clutch at low rpm. Give it some gas, it stops.

My 09 Ultra does the same thing. Must be the nature of the beast. Giving it more gas and slipping the clutch more seems to work.

My 08 did the same thing. Several guys here on the forum said it was likely to be a loose compensator nut. When I took the bike in for a filter shell recall I asked the service manager to check it out. When I picked it up he said "yep, compensator nut was not to spec". They retorqued it under warranty and no more noise.
