Not answering your question, but some personal info on extended warranty purchase: when I purchased my 07 scoot the dealer wanted 2K for the extended warranty, I called other dealers. Received a price $500 cheaper and my dealer honored the cheaper quote.

Ask the dealer for a copy of the contract and read it, paying attention to "covered repairs", "excluded repairs", etc.--take you about 3 minutes to read the iimportant stuff.

Also, the HD contract is an extended service agreement, not an extended warranty, so it is harsher on excluding repairs than the warranty.

PM me a fax no. and I will fax you the entire brochure including prices and part II, part II includes the specifics of what is covered and is not in the brochure, be aware the prices can be negotiated.

Some dealers are actually selling you an insurance policy that covers repairs after the warranty period with them as the writer. They pay the premium from your money and get paid from the policy. Many times the policy cost is far below what you paid. They get to pocket the overage as a sales incentive.
I never buy an extended warranty. If I have to think about one, then I am telling myself that I don't trust either the bike or the manufacturer. Same with cars. I buy the vehicle with the regular warranty.
My Harleys go out of warranty as soon as I do my mods anyway but the local dealer still fixes it under warranty or looses my business.

Very good info that most overlook.

By purchasing the ESP, my dealer lowered the interest rate on my loan from 7.9% to 5.9%. It got me a reasonable rate and when you figure the difference in the loan interest it made the ESP less than $500 for the 7 year period. I've had two tires replaced at no charge to me so I figure I'm at the break even point.

Looks like I paid $1699 for 60 month coverage on my '08 FLHX. I'm seriously considering canceling it as I won't keep the bike that long...

Granted, the terms are often used interchangeably, but they are different:

'A "service contract" is different from a warranty because service contracts do not affirm the quality or workmanship of a consumer product. A service contract is a written instrument in which a supplier agrees to perform, over a fixed period of time or for a specified duration, services relating to the maintenance or repair, or both, of a consumer product. Agreements that meet the statutory definition of service contracts, but are sold and regulated under state law as contracts of insurance, do not come under the Act's provisions. '

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act

So, if you have a warranty claim, the claim must be honored or the manufacturer/representative must prove the defect was not in their workmanship, etc. Under a service contract, the owner of the bike has the burden to prove the repair should have been covered under the Service Contract if the dealer/HD denies coverage. Also, the scope of coverage is more limited under the HD Service Contract than the warranty.

HTH.
