compression and cams, help!
I would like to upgrade to a better cam than the stocker, which is only 195 degrees at .050 from what i understand. I have a 2008 roadKing with Jackpot mufflers, thier good aircleaner, and a power commander 3 so far, but woulod like to improve the low speed torque and midrange some more if possible.
Does the stock motor have room for a thinner head gasket to improve quench and compression? Do i need to cut the heads a bit when i remove them for a bit of head work to go with the cam? Any cam in the 1800 to 4800 to 5000 rpm range is what i want to consider.
My cam choices are going to be in the .500 lift range, roughly 218 to 225 intake duration , a bit more on the exhaust. I don't rev my bike much over 5000 rpm so i want to really build the low end / midrange to its optimum. Greg

Check out the Woods 6 series of cams lots of bottom end. As far as head work: check out some of the sponsors, they have head work starting around $300 and up. The primary areas of importance for the street are the bowl area under the valves, the valves themselves, and port matching. Try to keep the compression ration under 10-1 to minimize detonation. Hope this helps.

I'm runnin Andrews 37H cams and I don't really think the torque comes on to around 2200. But I'll tell you what - between 3k and 5.5K those cams roll!
