05 RKC engine buildup help...please
I stopped by my local dealership to get a price quote on the work I wanted to get done this winter. I wanted to run by the details with the forum experts to see if I was on the right track and if the pricing seemed within reason:Main componets:3.875 cyclinder kit to 95"...$255 1550 piston kit (using domed pistions for 10.5:1 compression)...$150 SE 211 cam kit...$230 SE race tuner...$350 Performance clutch kit...$150 Misc gaskets and such...$180 D&D Fat cat exhaust...$850 Dyno time at 6 hrs for $60 bucks an hour...$360Labor at $60 bucks an hour at 11.5 hours...$690 All said and done, around $3200 Tech said I would be looking at around mid 90's HP and close to 100tq Not sure they really need 6 hours of dyno time, but other than that, how does this set up sound? Not looking for killer power, but would like something more than stock for everday driving.Thanks for your help.

You can bore your stock cylinders for about $125, and they are already heat cycled.
You can get the Fatcat online for about $600.
You won't need the performance clutch kit, a simple diaphragm spring swap for $25 will be fine.
Cometic top-end gasket kit is about $100, it includes all gaskets needed, and is better then the HD stuff.
There are better cams as well, but that's another can of worms that everyone will have an opinion on.
I did a '05 Road King build last winter for a friend of mine, 95" S/E pistons, bored stock cylinders, Woods cams, Big Boyz heads with 1.9" intakes and compression releases set at 10.2:1, Cometic gaskets, and my labor = $2000. He had it dyno tuned for another $400. It dynoed at 109tq/99hp.

post this over in the engine section where the motorheads hang out -- i would suggest looking into a auto tuner to eliminate most if not all of the dyno time (seems to be a touch much) ---- check this out http://www.head-quarters-usa.com/sporttouring06.html

If you have your stock cylinders bored, you won't have to do any break-in again. Your stock cylinders are already heat cycled and ready to go, you'll just have to seat the rings which is accomplished in about 10 minutes.
Get the Fatcat online to save a few bucks.
Between those 2 changes you could save about $400.
Skip the clutch setup, and just put in the SE spring for $25....that will save another $100.
Cometic gaskets are the way to go, and the complete gasket set is $100 online. That will save you another $80.
Other then those 4 things...........it looks like you are on the right track.

you would possibly make more power & torque than this, and the dip in the tq curve down low would also probably go away with the exhaust you have chosen.
this gets you very close to your goals without spending $3200! you gotta ask yourself, is 5 ft.lbs. and 5hp worth TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!! not hardly, but hey, that's just me...... and if I had it to do all over again, this is just what I would do...

that's a hell of a lot of money to spend for such mediocre expectations... I think you could get very close to your goals of hp & tq with just a cam, fatcats and an excellent tune....
