When properly tuned many setups are still making good power at 5600 and raising it to 6200 gives a bit better upper RPM performance.

Jamie,
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I see the 09 Download (EPA compliant) as the answer for those who don't want to possibly void their factory warranty, wile improving their performance by the addition of free flowing mufflers and better breathing air cleaner?
So, it allows the use of those better components while keeping the combustion in legal and factory limits, correct? You still gain by the better breathing components though right?

I know by you answering YES, it kind of goes against what you sell mainly but you've been a pretty straight shooter here on the boards so I hope you do answer. Or if you prefer, you can shoot me a PM to answer? I'm obviously concerned and would not repost your answer if you prefer.

My apology, as my original question was not well phrased. Let me try again - for an 09 touring bike, do I need a download if adding both free flow mufflers (I have Jackpots) and a SE stage 1 AC? I realize I can wait and put a PC V on and skip the download. What happens if I add the AC and don't do the download?

I am likely going to get the PC V when it comes out, but I am still curious about the above question.

Just bought a set of Rinehart Slip ons, a SE A/C and a SE Super Tuner for mine. I will install them tonight and this will wake the bike up a bit as well as add some fuel to richen it up a little. I have the SE Tuner software and the cable so I'll load the map myself as they have a few canned stage 1 maps in the software for use with bikes like this.

No issue with the warranty and any dealer who tells you otherwise is an A$$. Especially when most of the dealers sell all kinds of pipes. Just put the A/C on, flash it or install a tuner module and be done with it.

A buddy of mine is a Tuner, and he said they measured A/F on an 09 last week after installing a stage 1 kit with pipes and installing the tuner. They had not installed a map yet and before doing so the A/F was spot on. Can't say if they will all be like that but that's what they saw.

The old rule was, install pipes...no problem. Add a Stage 1 A/C and you add more air without fuel = Lean Condition. Look at it this way, it's a 20K bike, don't try and save a few hundred and risk it running lean. Lean equals heat, and heat equals problems. Want to find out how fast a dealer walks from a warranty claim, just tru taking it to them after you've cooked a set of rings.

Get the picture?

I cannot state what will or will not affect your warranty as the Motor Company controls warranty and information from anyone else would simply be speculation or opinion. What i can tell you is that the Stage 1 download makes no measurable change in AFR when datalogged or dyno tested.

This thread is a perfect example of "I was told", "what if", or "In my opinion". It has no factual information as to an example or event that has actually happened and much of the info is purely incorrect or speculation. Also remember the dealer does not make the warranty, the Motor Company does but it is in the dealers interest to sell you parts and service and steer you towards certain products.

yes I do - tell you what: I will buy the Super Tuner and you come down to Georgia with your CD and Cable and do the install for me. My lovely old lady will then cook you a good meal for your efforts. All kidding aside, I will (as I said in the post) likely get a PC V; what I am interested in is if I add the AC to my bike, which already has pipes, and then get a download, will I be OK.

The download will not be the answer, as it will not be tuned properly and will remain extremely lean. As previously noted this download primarily changes igntion timing, and is designed to be used with the stage 1 AC and 50 state legal Harley mufflers which are only slightly less restrictive than stock, not with a free flowing muffler. Trust me on this, we bought a 09 touring bike in early August for the sole purpose of R&D. Our bike already has several hundred dyno runs and we have tested and logged every which way possible so we know exactly what the AFR is with which mods. As far as your Jackpot mufflers, I designed them and know what they require for fuel and ignition timing changes. We will start developing our PC maps next week so stay tuned. I promise this will be awesome and worth the wait, we hope to be shipping PC V's the first week on Dec.
