Just one more thing to compare here are the prices for RK, EGC, and Ultra.

MSRP is:
RK: $16,999
EGC: $18,999
Ultra: $20,999

So while the EGC might be a better deal than RK with add-ons, the Ultra might not be unless you really want everything that's on the Ultra. As someone mentioned also, the resale value down the road might be something to consider.

Other than price, there's also all the extra fender rails and such on the EGC and Ultra that you may or may not want.

Overall it probably comes down to how important it is to you to be able to remove the fairing since you can make tour packs removable.

It depends on what your lookin for! For me its the RK for its versatility, yea it costs money to "dress" her up, but who cares! I look at it this way, I have a Road King, a Street Glide, a Classic, or an Ultra. It just depends on what I put on, or take off!

Paid around $500 for a Memphis Shades fairing, came in black which matched my bike (Vivid Black) perfectly. Pops off in 2 seconds when I want the wind in my face. Don't need a radio, I listen to the bike music and the voices in my head. Picked up a tour pack on ebay for $250 with lights and all, just minutes after the "Buy It Now" listing was put up. Another $267 to have it shot black. Already had the mount as my bike is a Police bike and the Police box uses the same mount as a tour pack. Granted, it isn't quick-detach, but I can mount or remove it in less than 5 minutes. There are ways to do it on the cheap, but you have to look around. Jeff

a couple of years ago i got an early 90s HD quick detach fairing on eBay for $200. pieced together a tour pack for about $500 and got lowers for $200. ended up for under $1000. the quick detach has a height adjustable windshield and is removable with only 4 nuts where the stock RK quick detach windshield fits.

I paid $2400 for fully loaded and painted (out side shell and inner shell) fairing and just about $1500 for king tour pack and all the parts and pieces needed to install it. If you are already thinking about a fairing and tour pack save yourself time and money and get an Ultra. When people see my bike they think its an Ultra until they see the inner fairing and gas tank up close - the difference is I can take it all off for a whole different look.

Yup, same here.... I can send you photos of the transformation if you send me an email. However, if I had to do it again I would buy an Ultra... SAVE a TON!
