Yes, EGT can easily reach 1500F when these bikes have a lean condition.

Thank you for all the replies...I just makes me nervous as heck seeing that pipe glow and being so close to the starter. Seems like the starter would possibly suffer the most due to the close proximity.
Most replies here indicate it is not normal or acceptable and I tend to agree. V&H tells me it is due to the thin wall pipe they use but it is normal. I like the pipes but am considering getting rid of them...
How many of you folks have just accepted the glowing pipe and continue to ride the bike?
Thanks again!

pipes
On the way back from Daytona last night I noticed while looking down that I could see a slight glow reflecting in the top of the tranny cover. Pulled over on the exit ramp, left the bike running , looked and sure enough the rear head pipe was slightly glowing. Now these are V&H true duals, and I had been running 70mph for the past 1.5 hours. But the outside temp was 28 degrees. Definately surprised me. I had the harley lowers (the button on elephant ear type installed). I also have not done anything to the fuel setting, just pipes.
