they tel me it is normal: glowing V&H duals; rear pipe

my 07 rg does it bone stock, put on a stage one with terry tv2 for fuel management still did it ,went back to stock with xieds still had a glowing rear pipe, bike has 22000 kms on it now and always seemed to run fine in any of the configurations mentioned above,I have recently taken my motor apart to build a 113 inch and everything looked fine ,I think the glowing head pipe is more of a timing issue than a fuel issue,I will be using a tts tuner when the bike goes back together so I will be able to adjust timing along with fuel, but I wouldn't worry about it to much it didn't seem to do any harm to my bike in 22,000 kms.,should do a search on glowing pipes there is more than a few threads on the subject.

The glowing red rear pipe is not normal. You need either more fuel or less ignition advance in the rear cylinder.
I'm not familiar with the Fuel Pak, but if V&H doesn't provide a setting for Ultras they should because the fairing lowers (assuming yours are on the bike) significantly reduce air flow to the rear cylinder in my experience. The settings that are fine on a non-fairing lower equipped bike, may be too lean for a lower fairing equipped bike.

I am not going to say the glowing rear pipe is "normal" in most applications, but I will stay that it is not completely abnormal either, especially on the 96" bikes. Stock bikes do this, as do most tru dual setups. This all comes down to tuning. The main issue causing this on the 96" bikes is a combination of cam timing, lean AFR and NOT ENOUGH initial ignition timing. Remember that too little (retarded) base ignition timing makes for extremely high exhaust gas temps and these temps increase proportionally when you combine that with the lean AFR in the idle and cruise range on these bikes The EGT can be 1500+ F degrees. Wonder why these bikes run hot?
