Default Oil temp gauge

Just installed the Roger McEwan oil temp gauge on my 08 EGC. It was an ez install and the gauge matches the factory ones from HD. It was 114.00 w/shipping (gauge from HD is 139.00, so I saved a little money). riding two up today in 80* weather, the temp got to around 240*, which I think is a little hot given the balmy temps today. suspect I will be buying an oil cooler before next summer. anyway, they gauge looks good and now I have a truly functional gauge package.

don;t expect to much of a difference with the oil cooler. it does go down slightly and gives you about 1/2 on extra oil

Adding a fan to the oil cooler will greatly reduce the oil temp.

240 is normal. Oil seperates at 320 degrees. This temp will kill and engine. You want oil to have an operating temperature above 180 to remove acidics and toxins, also burns off condensation. This is the reason MOCO does not install a cylinder head temp or oil temp guage. Some people see the temp and freak out.

would like to know if I could put that guage in a Dead Center Fairing? Also the Jag oil cooler dropped my temp about 15 degrees!

I installed the HD 2" oil temp gauge kit a few months ago....removed the ambient temp gauge. Mounted the sender in the pan....the forums method...not the MOCO's. Mid Summer oil temps never went over 240*F even in heavy NYC traffic.....a good fully synthetic oil is just getting warmed at that temp. I dont think you NEED a cooler....if your using good synthetic oil.
