Default Would like to put 21"/18" Tires on my 08 Road King

Those that have them on their touring bike, how did it change the ride quality? Was it still ridable for long distances?

I would like to put them on my bike for next season but want to make sure I'm not making a mistake. I love the look of the 21"/18" tire combo, but don't want to sacrifice the ride quality.

A friend also mentioned that instead of going with the 21" front tire, that I would be better off with a 19" tire and would look just as good.

Thanks.

I love the way they handle and look. stearing is a lot lighter. I have seen the 19 on baggers, they look good as well. I had an 18" front prior to the 21 and am glad I went with the 21. Go for it!!!

the biggest difference is a bit of a stiffer ride due to the lower profile tire. The 21 tire has less sidewall, so it will tend to feel a bit stiffer compared to a 16 or 18. You will also notice that the bike handles a little different at slow speeds (like in a parking lot). The front wheel is heavier, but it's nothing to worry about. If you don't like the "lifted" look, most people lower the front and rear to get that lower custom look. GO FOR IT!

Watching with intense interest, as I've got this pounding urge to go with the 21X18 as well.....

I went with the stock rear wheel and a 21" hog pro on the front. I have taken several 400 mile 2 up trips on the bike No problem. However I do have a spare front tire in my bedroom. Because my dealer dont carry them. Oh and I did use the progressive 2 inch lowering kit. It seems to ride the same as it did before as far as height and Cg goes. The under 70 handeling is a little sharper and the ABS STILL WORKS PERFECTLY

IMO - the ride is much better. I feel the handling of my bike greatly improved once I put the 21/18 combo on. As far as stiffness, I didn't notice anything different than the stock set up. The tires too make a huge difference, and the Metzlers are awesome.

It's a good move. I say go for it also. I went with a Hog Pro contrast cut 21" on the front and love it. I did lower the front end by 2" however. I went with the HD Racing fork oil to stiffen up the front as much as I could. I heard about people getting dents in the fender from being to low. I have had no problems at all. The bike almost feels lighter due to the lower CG. You'll love it.

I have seen no downside whatsoever. No harsher ride, no ABS problems, it handles better and I love the looks. Some people will say you need to lower the front, I didn't and have no intention of doing so. If you like the looks and don't mind the expense go for it.

Thanks for the replies. Is there a specific brand you would recommend or is it a matter of choice?
