I know the dealer I took my bike to for the 1K(first and last service that a dealer will do)did not grease the neck.Like others,it must have took at least 50 plus pumps to have it EXUDE out.
I have been using Valvoline High temp wheel bearing grease,no problem with the drip.
I use that "green grease" synthetic grease on EVERYTHING!!! My truck, my trailer, my Glock.... everything... so I will probably use that for the steering neck as well. I am wondering if mine is dry or lubed or not. My bike was an ex-police bike, and then had a private owner after that, so I wonder if it was done or not.
Think about how much movement that bearing sees and then how much grease should be used, years ago there were no zirks on the sterring head, just the initial hand pack, and I don't recall many bearing failures. Just sayin....
It's not a spinning object, if you want to do it right take it apart, use soap grease and pack the bearings, loading the tube is a waste... I can not understand why sealed bearings are not used...
Just keep an eye on the amount that gathers inthe lower triple clamp. I have pools of greese built up in mine. Can make a mess if you don't clean it up. I would second the addition of the 45 degree zerk. Made things alot easier.
Good to see you found the site Mainshaft. Talk to you soon.

bet not. I figured since mine was a ex police bike it would have been done, oh no full tube of grease later. also dont assume it will come out the bottom first mine came out of the top.
I use the Amsoil Synthetic lithium waterproof wheel bearing grease. Same as recommended for the Mercury outboards. Stays put in hot weather and is waterproof.
