From what I understand, parts are marked up 40%. So even the dealer giving 20% off is still making 20%.

If it was my business I would rather sell a lot at discounted prices rather then hope some uneducated buyer will come in and buy something at MSRP. Word of mouth spreads fast when someone is selling items at discounted prices. And on the other hand, it also spreads fast when a dealer tries to screw their customers.

But then again, there's a sucker born every minute. Some people will pay MSRP because they know no better or they have plenty of money and don't care.

Some dealers won't budge on MSRP. My dealer won't.

1.) I went in with a long list about 1k worth of stuff. I asked for 20% off, since I could order it from Chicago for 20% with free shipping. They said nope.

2.) I went in looking for a tire. I told 'em so and so HD sold all Harley tires for 99 bucks (now 109 bucks). They said they only sell them for what MSRP in the HD book says.

Both times, I went elsewhere. Matter of fact, I do most of my shopping elsewhere.

so how about letting us know who 'so and so hd' is. tires are a fairly regular purchase in my household (2 bikes) and if they are close enough, thats where i'll go.

dammit! you're right, they aint close. but they are close to my sister's place (well, on the way at least) so i guess if i was on a road trip, could make it there. by the way, been there. pretty nice shop, but not very handicapped friendly, took my dad about 10 mins to make it up the steps!

When it took me 2 weeks to get my parts from Zanotti's? I'll admit I saved money on that purchase, but I had to move appts to get my bike fixed.

When I get 15% off everything at my local dealer, all the time, for being a veteran?

When it's a part that cost $30 at the dealer and it's $25.50 at the online place, and $6 to ship?

When I need/want a part right away, and I have to wait days when ordering online?

I'm just sayin...

The catalog was probably outdated. Prices change 2-3 times a year.
