My right bag has a tendancy to come open. regardless of if it's locked. I have since bent the tab secured to the bag itself to engage deeper with the tab located on the lid, as well as giving the lid a little jiggle to ensure that both front and rear latches are fully engaged. I actually lost my rainsuit out of my bag the second time it came open.

Ive ridden a bagger with 10,000 miles and my new one with 0 miles ive noticed as they get used more and more they tend to open up going down the road. I lock mine all the time know cuz they just seem to get wore out (broke in) as time goes on.

Had one of mine pop open several time on my way to DC last year for Rolling Thunder.

Overfilled the bags with whiskey, condoms & viagra!

Seriously, had the bag too full.

For your buddies bike, check the latch catch tabs on the back of the bag. Sometimes they'll spread too far.

 

I put a RK seat on my UC and its a tight fit for the lids to close. They actually rub across the little emblem on the seat. So they cant fly open.

 

I had it happen once, and had just the latch pop open several times. I usually lock them now so I don't have that problem anymore.

 

I have had mine pop completely open and other people have told me that this has happened to them also. I now keep them locked. The few seconds it takes is worth me not having to worry about it.

 

Have never had that problem, but I'm good about making sure they're latched and locked before I take off.

 

+2 on the retaining strap. I actually took my strap off to iron and starch the heck out it. Then put the strap back on. The starch stiffend it up so it doesn't fold and get caught between the lid and bag. Seems to be working so far.
