i have a 2000 ultra classic and the alternator stopped charging
when i am at idle, if i take it up to 2000 rpms it starts charging
again
what gives?????????

 

I didn't think any bike charged much, if at all when at idle....you're running off the battery at low rpm. If you have to run it too high to get a charge going you might want to have the system checked....it could be stator, regulator, or both.

 

MY thought also, I dont know of many vehicles that will charge at idle. I have a 220a alternator on my truck and it doesnt even charge at idle. Depending on wear, id say to check that regulator. Ive had to replace a regulator, but never a stator.

Thats a different story, you may have taxed the system and burned up the stator. I would have it checked out, big bikes arent fun to push start
