Default HD sport tourer

i would like to see HD enter the sport touring market. I really don't understand why they don't. They have the perfect power train to do so in the vrod. If they would put out a full faired bike comparable to kawasaki, yamaha, bmw with the vrod power plant it would surely be a hit.

The FXDX was close. It was a good riding position, pretty sparky, for a Hog, and you could fit a lot of luggage. It didn't really make it all the way to "sport" but it came in a T version that was a decent attempt. I think lots of folks have noticed the glaringly obvious hole in the MoCo lineup created by the absent mods to the VRSC line. Probably has something to do with not cutting into the sales of their other bikes. If they had a badass full-on luxo-o-tourer like the UC with a VRSC motor guys like me might be tempted. Still, it escapes me how selling one bike over another is bad for the company. They have big brains in Milwaukee so I am sure there is a good reason.

Your idea sounds good, but if you ever want to see this, or expect it, it will have to come from the Ulysses. ...JMO

no not buell, no not agusta. they are not comparable to sport toring bikes they are sport bikes. Sport touring bikes need to be all day comfortable with good ergonomics, full fairing good wind protection ect. i know some sport bikes offer bags and call them sport touring, oh they have the sport part down but they don't come close to c14, fjr, k1200gt, r1200rt in the touring aspect

The Buell S3T was as close as HD ever got to a sport tourer. Unfortunately Buell's quality at that time was abysmal. The FXDXT was an attempt to make a Dyna tourer. The FXDXT was discontinued when I wanted one so I bought a 2004 FXDXI and added bags and windshield myself. It was a nice touring Dyna but not a sport tourer by any means.
I thought the Street Rod could come close with its standard riding position but it still had heavy "cruiser" steering with the basic Vrod front end plus it needed a fairing and real luggage. It baffles me why HD makes a half hearted attempt every so often then abandons the effort when it the sport tourer riders aren't quite taken with it. Naturally the HD faithful doesn't buy a poor attempt of a sport tourer, so with slow sales numbers the MoCo has no choice but to drop it.

THe StreetRod VRSCR was the perfect platform for a Sport-Tourer. I had a Windvest and sport bags on mine and it was great in that venue. I rode with FJR1300s, Goldwings, and others and loved it.
