Default Accessory connection to power source under fairing

I want to hardwire my Zumo to a power source under the fairing. I have used the search function and it seems I have a few options. 1-connect to back of cigarette adapter, 2-accessory switch, 3-extra headlight lead.

If I use the headlight lead do I just use taps or do I need to get some type of special connector?

If anyone has pictures that would be great. I would like to get what I need before taking things apart and I am a very visual person.

Thanks!

I don't have any pictures, but i used the headlight leads and just plugged them into a $6 cigarette type adapter, then I plugged in the garmin power lead to that. My Nuvi is 5.5 volts so I needed the transformer, with the Zumo I think its 12 volts, so you could just hard wire it in if you wanted with butt splices.

I insulated the adapter with piece of shrink tube, then just used a tie wrap to secure it so it wouldn't rattle around

inside the fairing there should be 2 wires running next to the headlight wires. One has a red cap on it - it has 12volt when the ignition is on (don't know about Access position)and takes a blade connector....I was told it was for the HD navigation system. I have not looked at my 2009 yet.
Or you can tap into the wires going to the lighter....

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know what size male blade connector I would need to plug into the extra headlight leads?
