Are you reporting that MD has larger license plates for motorcycles than the standard size? Ever see some of thoe Euro plates? Holy crap. Some of them are frigging billboards.

Default Md Plates

I think MVA will continue using the old ones until they run out.

Don't have one yet. Would love to not have to have that billboard strapped to the back of my bike!

I could have transferred my tag that was good until June 09 when I did the title work on my SG that I had purchased in TN. I chose to pay MVA an extra $20 to get the new SMALLER size tag right away. I believe the clerk told me that at regular renewal the new size tag will be issued. I think my $20 fee was because I upgraded prior to regular renewal.

The MD tag I've had since 1996 is 8.5" x 4.5", what size is the new smaller tag?

In MI when I wanted a new plate I took my "damaged plate" in and they replaced it with a new for $5.

I think the new size is around 4.5" x 6.5". It fit exactly into the tag holder that the TN dealer had used for the temporary TN tag and the tag bolted right onto the standard H-D tag bracket. Here is a picture of the new tag and perhaps you can get an idea of the new ratio to the tail light.

I believe I heard now there will only be 1 or 2 states with odd ball sizes.

4x7 I think is the new Maryland size. You can take your old plates in and for $20 they will give you a new smaller plate with your current expiration date. Most MVA's still have quite a few of the older sized plates to issue before they give out the new smaller plates But in any case it's good that we can now get rid of that billboard
