Default 21"/18" Wheels Chassy Lowering? On 2008 SG.

I did the 21" Front, 18" Rear PM Wheel change on my 2008 Street Glide and lowered the front 1". The bike still sits much higher than my 2004 SE Electra Glide did with stock wheels. I'm thinking about lowering the rear 1.5" and changing the front lowering kit to a 2" lowering kit. Has anyone did this lowering combination? If so, what do you think of it, etc.? What kits did you use front and rear? I'm thinking of going with the "Burly Brand" rear lowering kit if I do make the changes. Any and all information will be appreciated.

Check the clearance between the top of the crash bar / frame area and the fender now when the front suspension is fully compressed and see if you have enough room to drop another inch, you may not.

One of the reasons I switched my 21" to an 18" in the front and I'm not short. I just didn't care of the tippy raised feeling of the 21" and much prefer the 18" for overall comfort. I would be real careful tearing into that well designed gorgeous 2009 with such ideas of lowering front ends 2"'s and rears 1.5" etc. You have a wonderfully engineered bike...don't tinker to the point of screwing it up.

I agree, your ride will suffer and you may have clearance problems. Be careful messing with it too much. I think others have lowered their 08's and wished they hadn't.

Default Thanks for the replys!

I appreciate everyone's input and will take it all to heart. The info on this site is always top notch. I did notice several SG's crusing Main St. in Daytona with 21"/18" combos and they appeared to be much lower than mine for some reason. I just never had the opportunity to talk to any of these people. My bike does ride good as it is and I love the look of the 21" front and 18" rear, but it would be nice to have a little more bend in the knees when stopped and also backing the bike up. I'm 6' tall, but short in the legs. I know I'll pay for that statment. lol I'm running a LePera Solo Bare Bones Seat most of the time and that does help a little. Hopefully, someone will soon reply who has lowered the rear of an '08 SG. The more input the better. Thanks again to those who have already replied and your information is respected and appreciated.

I have an '09 that is lowered 2" in the rear with no problems. No 21" in the front with no plans on it.

I think you should lower it 1" in front with a 21" wheel without question. If you lower the rear end 1.5" more than stock you've lowered it 2.5" total from your EG, since the SG is already lowered 1" from the factory. That just seems extreme to me as far as ride comfort goes. Why don't you get a slammed capability air suspension kit?

r8rs4lf, What product/part/brand lowering kit did you use and is it available in 1" and, or 1.5" drop? Thanks for your reply.
