2009 Street Glide Seat Update
#21
Yea the stock seat pan was way too wide.
I've ridden a friends 2008 and the frame appears about 1/2" shorter in length so that may be why the reach seat put her too close to bars.
What is an 89 Decker?
I'll be curious how she likes the Saddlemen.

Thanks for your trials and efforts will save me some $$ in the future. I'm a light guy weigh around 140 LBS most of the time except winter time LoL to much beer and no activity = fat
That being said sounds like we are eye to eye on build except the well ya know what I mean.
Your right on getting an 08 way better deals their but after having it a few miles don't want to regrete not getting the latest and greatest. Thanks again for all your time BIG HELP!

UPDATE 1/23/09
Thanks to this web site, was researching possible back rest options for my Reach Seat. Heard good things about Mustang working with Harley seats so I called them. The adjustable options are great, however, it doesn't work with the reach seat, only the stock Harley seat.
LowriderTodd had told me about a custom C & C seat he had built in a forward seat with a back rest and I had been considering them as well. Just wasn't sure it would be as comfortable on long trips as my Reach seat was.
I was of the impression Mustang did not make a close model, however, Paul told me their Solo model #79600 would move me forward 1" and back rest is adjustable to push me even further forward, yet stay flush/flat against my back. Furthermore, they were having 10% off today and I could try it for 10 days. He told me to ride it 1,000 miles if I wanted and if I didn't love it in 10 days, send it back. Now that is a deal!!!
Back tracking a little, I did phone Corbin to inquire about a re-work. They are backed up after being closed for Christmas 3 weeks, however, based on the nose job they had already done on my seat, were doubtful they could solve my problem. I appreciated the honesty. What they did do, was provide me with an RMA # for a return and they will give me the regular model in trade. At least my husband can try that one on his Electra Glide Standard and if he doesn't like it, it will sell easier than the close model which wasn't selling on e-bay. Considering I couldn't hardly get the kick stand up after installing the Corbin, I thought that was a reasonable trade and I will likely get a better price for the regular classic solo model. I shipped the close model back today.
I should have my Mustang seat next Friday.
Also learned I can't use the Harley adjustable back rest due to my mid-frame air deflectors, however, the other back rest is somewhat manually adjustable and in the form I would prefer. There are different mounting holes for back rest to move it forward to accomodate Reach seat yet leaving the back rest standing up flat against your back instead of tilted toward it which didn't sound comfortable to me. I tried that with Corbin and it wasn't good.
I will say that my back did not hurt in the Corbin and seating area was comfortable. Just the huge hump at the front of gas tank was not good in the close model.
I've heard good things about the Mustang so I'm excited to finally get to try one. Never known anybody to accept returns or encourage you to ride it 1,000 miles.
As for backing my bike up...recently checked my tire pressure. Was a little low. Amazing how much easier it rolled back when the tires were at proper pressure. Lesson learned! Bought a little air compressor from Wal-Mart and will check them more religiously from now on!

How did that Mustang work?
Great thread, very informative for those of us that aren't sure which way to go.
I am the computer savvy one in our household so I look for the solutions. My wife has an 09 SG and it sounds like she is the same dimensions as you crfranklin65. I'd like to know how the Mustang worked out for you and if you're all set or are you still looking for "the solution". I'll be honest and I'm thinking it may be cheaper to just go with the air ride and be done with it, seats ain't cheap and one that works for this sucks for that and so on. We just put a passenger back rest (sissy bar) on the bike so going to a solo would kind of make us rethink that option...so on and so forth.

I've been pretty happy with my Harley reduced reach seat. Just took another 600 mile round trip on it. I have the harley back rest that though it claims not to be adjustable, it is manually and it swivels with your back movement like the Mustang one does. I really like it. Looks good with my detachable sissy bar back rest. Also added the detachable luggage rack and it works great with my barrel bag.
I have ordered a C & C Sport Tour with back rest. Should be in within a week now. Based on measurements from Lil Evil, it should get me even lower to the ground. I had it customized because I also need closer to the bars.
I sold my other seats on e-bay so I am not out a whole lot of money except for on the modifications. I'd rather lose a few hundred on seats before trying the $1,100 Arnott Air Ride system.
I will hang on to my reach seat for awhile just in case the C & C Seat is not as comfortable as my Harley Reach seat for me on long trips. So far, comments I've read about C & C's comfort are good. If I prefer the C & C Seat all the time, my husband can use my back rest on his 2009 Electra Glide Standard.
The Sundowner didn't get me close enough to the bars nor does it get me quite as low to the ground (tried a friends - didn't buy). Mustang seat and modifications were only marginal improvements for me over stock.
I've been riding for five years now and we are thoroughly enjoying the 2009 touring models.

I too have an '09 FLHX that I have only ridden for 3 days. I am about 5'7" with a 30" inseam. I am flat footed on the bike, but the front tip of the stock saddle is wide and takes up some of my length in having to span the width.
I tried riding my wife on the bike yesterday and she absolutely hated the stock saddle!!! She made it very clear that if she will be riding on it, I will have to buy a saddle that is comfortable for her. I don't blame her and I think the stock saddle is fine for around town, but I did only about 150 miles on it a couple days ago and could already feel it.
Thanks for starting this thread. Being an owner of a new bike and coming from a BMW 1150 RT, I don't want to buy a half-dozen saddles to figure out which one makes sense.

C&C does modify their seats. I am also 5' 07'' with a 30" inseam. I have an 09 Street Glide and I had them move me forward approximately 1/2'' from the stock seat and had them taper the sides. I have the Fastback model and I sit easily flat footed and the seat is comfortable.
Talk to Chuck, their service is great and the seat looks and feels great! Good luck.
