Default Amsoil products

I am currently trying to change the oil in my 05 Classic. After using Amsoil products in the past of course I wanted to continue. After picking up the oil and filter while trying to replace the existing filter I noticed the new one is slightly smaller in diameter. The threads are the same just the filter is smaller. According to the Amsoil rep they changed the size of the filter to make it more universal in order to be used with more applications. Do I risk it and install the smaller one or purchase a different brand name like HD to get exactly the same size as original? thanks for the help.

Hmmmm....."universal filter" or one made specifically for your bike according the the bike manufacturer's specs....It doesn't seem too hard to me. I'd use the HD filter. About 7 bucks from a discount dealer is hard to beat.

It will work great,I use amsoil oil and filters also.Yes the filter is a tad smaller on the outside but will work flawlessly. You can get a filter wrench that fits it from amsoil for about 3.00 dollars. No problem at all.

Thanks to all.

OK, I'll bite..... Why would anyone have a problem with switching to AMSOIL?

It's a full synthetic oil, just like HD's magical synthetic elixer but better. If won't cause any problems, it doesn't cause leaks, it doesn't prevent an engine from breaking in, it doesn't react with natural oil and form crystals in the engine, or any other wives tale that someone may have told you. It will work just fine

let me know how that filter works out. I've been running the amsoil 20W50 for the primary and oil bag on the '00 deuce. Bike runs cooler and oil is cleaner when I change it out. I also put in the severe gear lube in the tranny which smoothed out shifts, sounds less like a truck.

I've used Amsoil for some time now, since the early 70's in all my toys domestic or german without any problem. from what I've read comparing Amsoil filter to others it out performs all of them, the same with the oil. the smaller size filter actually is a benefit I can use a 100% cotton strap wrench to remove it and give it that extra 1/4 turn during installation. recently, on my 5K oil change I used the 70W/140 in the tranny it did away with the noise in 5th gear and finding "N" is easier.

I just don't think you can beat Amsoil...your Mobil 1 is a good product also but Amsoil has done me right. I haven't tried the oil filter yet but I will.
