I use it in my Bike,Truck,Car,and Boat. I have 11 1/2 months and 10000 miles on the oil in my Truck. I am getting ready to send a second sample of oil to the lab (Blackstone) before i change it. The first sample at 7 months 7k miles indicated that the oil was in great condition and it would be perfectly fine to run for 6 more months. I will only run the oil for extended periods in my truck and car but so far i am very impressed with the performance of it. It did seem to make my 08UC a little cooler and it certainly shifts smoother. I do however use the HD oil filter because of its micron count being lower. To each his own but i will stick with Amsoil for the oil.

 

not saying that you have any problems, but you actually want the oil dirtier when you change it out. you want the contaminants in the oil, not in your engine.

 

What do you guys pay for your Amsoil filters, and where do you buy them? Thanks

 

Amsoil is great! I run the 20w-50 in the engine and the severe gear 75/90 in the tranny. Engine runs a lot cooler, seems to wind up a little quicker and my MPG picked up over 5% from dino oil. My tranny shifts nice and smooth now too.

I much prefer the K&N oil filter (KN-171C) and can't comment on the Amsoil filter. A ratchet and long extension with a 17mm socket is all you need to change the filter.

 

Ok guys...let's keep the laughter to a minimum, but need some clarification. Is it the same motor oil that is used for the engine, tranny, and primary...just different weights??? I want to make my service less expensive as well so I'm researching all about it...torque specs for replacing covers, oil brands (amsoil vs syn 3), lube brands for the cables, etc... any help and/or advice would be appreciated.

Go easy on this middle-aged chick...I understand engines a lil bit but just need to learn a few more things...then I will open a shop...teehee!!

20w/50 is for the motor oil and is a good weight for the primary with the wet clutch. Always good to change the primary every other motor oil change. The transmission should get a 75/90 gear oil, synthetic is the best and it should be changed with ever other motor oil change.

I personally use Amsoil for my bike.I got to California and had Bartels HD change it for me, I rode 4500 miles back from California of a 8k mile ride in 3 week, I had a oil analysis on the motor oil and transmission and found after all that hard riding the oil stood the up to the test. The transmission and primary wasnt changed until I got home here in South Carolina

As for torque specs , if your wanting to to do all your own wrenching best thing is to go a local Harley Dealer and get yourself the service manual and I would recommend the parts manual for your specific bike and its model year. They both are very useful.

Last 2 cases of 20/50 Amsoil I bought was earlier in the year and I paid 96.00 a case from a distributor. @ 12 quarts to a case, that works out to 8.00 a qt.
I'm sure the price has gone up since then, but I don't have a current price. Guess I'll find out when I use the last of what I've got.

 

I use Amsoil 20/50 in the engine. Severe gear 75/90 in the trans. I've been happy with both of them. HD Formula+ in the primary because it costs about the same per quart as the Amsoil, and I don't have to buy 2 cases of amsoil to do 3 oil changes!
