In my experience most of the guys I have ridden with that didn't have Harley's wished they did. In rare exceptions some are devoted to BMW's and Goldwings and if they are not, and they continue to ride, they eventually get some sort of Harley that is suited to their spending limits. As noted in a previous reply, he could of bought a decent Harley for what his metric outlay was. I am sure he will enjoy his new bike and rightly so, but the Harley mystic is ever present.

Had a Vulcan and really liked it. However it did have it's handling issues. Bike I had before I bought my RG was a BMW RT. Took a 6k ride with my bro who had bought a RK. I teased the heck out of him about how much it vibrated at idle, etc. He had to cut the ride short at my house which was 1k miles short of his. He asked me to ride his RK to his house, which I did. I was suitably impressed, sold my BMW and bought the RG. Although the BMW was a great bike, dealing with the company was a PIA (and you thought Harley was a PIA to deal with.....let me tell ya........). Suffice it to say I love my RG and don't see ever going back. I, like many others, really don't care what anybody rides just so long as they love bikes and riding. "Let's roll!"

My first bike was the Nomad 1500--rode for 781 miles and sold it. For $13 geez, I would have went for a used HD.

Again, to each his own.....he'll be ok....with some therapy!
