Default Front break lever too loose?

I have been reading post on the forum for the past year. I joined a couple of months ago. I do not post a lot, because Im still learning. Here is my question: I took the Riders Edge Course last week. I took the written at the DMV and now have my license. Im ready to buy my first bike. I want a Harley, but I don't want the high payments for 84 months. A co-worker is selling his 2003 Electra Glide for $11,000. The bike is very clean and he has put a lot of extras on it. I thought it might be a nice "first bike". I got on the bike and squeezed the front break lever. The break lever was so loose, it almost went all the way back to the throttle. He said he took it too Harley and had it checked out and it was fine. I told him the breaks needed bleeding and he said he had it done and could show me the paper work from Harley. He said they work fine, the lever is just loose. Is this normal? If not, will it cost a lot to fix? Any input is good input.. Thanks

Default ....

When you pump it a few times does it 'firm' up? If it does that's a sure sign.
I think you've hit the nail on the head....it needs to be bled. (sorry for bein' a poet)

Another thing that will cause the brake lever to go all the way back to the grip is dirty pistons. Have the caliper pistons cleaned and bleed the system
