'06 Sporties start at about the price this guy is asking for his used one, plus you get 2-year warranty, rubber mounted engines, and a couple models have been lowered for the benifit of smaller/ lighter riders.
I'd pass on the used one and go check out the bikes at your local dealer.

Very smart way to go Mitt! Older Sportsters are too top heavy and too tall (for short riders). You're doing the right thing for your wife! MSF course is a must, then a small CC cruiser. Then, if she likes riding, then a Harley. And, $6,800 for a 1998 model is way too much! Check the NADA guide at www.nada.com to see how much it's really worth! You'll be surprise!

Thank you that was a very fair price however, I have no way to get it and we have decided (thanks to advice of others and own narly wisdom) to pursue a different route.
First off MC course which ends with a license - then used metric small bore, one season on it then we'll re-evaluate - case closed...

I have a 2005 883L that I will sell you for $7000.00 with less than 600 mile on it. Has exhaust, stage 1, and rejet done already. This bike is brand new. Let me know if you want pics.
