Just got through putting a new 8967 bearing in my bike and will never run gear oil in it again. We are not in the 70's or 80' any more. They are running ATF in 5 speed cars and trucks these days and not a problem 1. Most of these cars and trucks get more miles put on them in a year than most of today harley's will see in their lives. Oh i for got these are harley the most sophisticated things on the road. You might want to contact Nasa and ask what they ran in the space shuttle and find something better because it probably want be good enough for a harley. What ever makes you feel better gear oil or motor oil or the right magic oil run it. Just remember thick oils do not flow good cold and you get most of your wear on start up.

I run Spectro 6 70/140 synthetic in mine. Bike seems to like it, and it shifts smooth.

Not trying to cause trouble...but as an Amsoil dealer I can tell you that Amsoil recommends you use the 75W-110 SVT or the 75W-140 SVO Severe Gear Oils for Harley Davidson transmission applications.

To answer OP question...Amsoil 75W-110 SVT Severe Gear Oil

Oil threads and Amsoil, both make me laugh more than the old Two and a Half Men with Charlie Sheen!

Oh good, another oil thread. By the way, anyone can become an Amsoil dealer for $30 per year, does that make you an expert? I don't think so.

Amsoil is pure synthetic and there are third party tests being done proving real data backing up how good Amsoil is. Gear oil and motor oil are rated differently and gear oil can withstand the pounding from the gears better than the regular motor oil. I have 40k on my softail and my dad had 50k on his Electra glide and we never had oil related problems and use Amsoil 20/50 in all three holes. If is the best my opinion.

Asking if someone is an expert? The "expert " said Amsoil recommend the oil! Why mess with that guy?
