I have a 03 Ultra Classic. Most of my riding is around town. I would like to remove the tour pak and store it away for the 2 or 3 times a year that the wife and I take trips. When the tour pak is off, I want to be able to add a passenger back rest. I know this will involve a docking station, detachable tour pak rack kit, license plate mount, wiring connections, and probably 50 other items. Does anyone have any advice?
I went to an auto parts store and bought a wiring 8 plug or 6 plug connector. I cut my wires for the speakers under the seat.I then soldered the ends on and put them in the connector pack.On my 98' there is no way to unplug the speakers.
I have no real advice, as I use the tour pak all the time, even when riding solo. I would like to say, however, you have great taste in Ultras. Yours is the best looking model year and color combo. Nice bike.
The silver and black is my absolute favorite. I even considered selling my 03 and finding a Street Glide. Then I realized they didn't make the SG in 03 and thus no silver & black. I changed my mind and kept the Ultra.
Tons of folks here have done it... But as you know it isn't a cheap process.. By the time you get all the Quick Disconnects stuff and do the wiring with the Qucik Connect Backrest, Pad & Luggage Rack & a antenna relocators (x2) - Plan on spending $500.00 or more...
The local dealership wanted closer to $1000 to do it. That's why I'm looking for a cheaper way. Don't think though that I want anything less than the best.
I've seen several different styles of rack kits on the street. Does anyone know if one is better than the other and where can I find these other styles?
Thanks to everyone so far for their advice.
